We have officially turned the page to Spring! And even though blooms are popping up everywhere, gardeners know that we have several more “little winters” to go until we are in the clear for full on planting in the garden.

These cold snaps in the mountains are very predictable if you are paying attention to nature. It is good to keep them in mind as the days become warmer and we are tempted to throw everything into the garden or to pack our winter clothes away only to be confronted with another spell of cold temperatures.

The two little winters that I pay the most attention to are yet to come… Dogwood Winter, which hits just as the Dogwoods are blooming in the next few weeks and then Blackberry Winter, which, you guessed it, comes when the blackberries are blooming in May. It is after Blackberry Winter that it is generally safe to say that winter is over and to put in the crops that love the summer - tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, and other heat loving plants.

When we live our lives in connection with Nature, aware of the rhythms of nature, we are more resilient and adaptable in our lives. Our Kaiut practice uses the awareness of the natural rhythms of life and healing to rescue our connection to nature and to ourselves!
